Piazza Carlo Giovannone, also known as “Piazza Nuova” since it was the last, in order of time, to be built in Castagnole delle Lanze, was once occupied by the cemetery and St. Peter's Church.
The square has undergone changes: in 1851 the Municipality, in response to the need to enlarge the market area, decided to buy a first plot of land.
Three years later, the cemetery was relocated to allow for the enlargement of the square, whose current size was reached in 1898.
